Growing and Sharing our Faith in God

Meet Our Staff and Board of Directors

Our Director is Mrs. Melody Underwood!

A former registered x-ray technician, she has been with First Friends since 1992.  A native Chillicothean, she graduated from Chillicothe High School,  has 2 children and has been married to husband, Rich, for 40 years. She works with the Director to coordinate the programs and activities that will accomplish our goal of preparation for the future.  She considers it her great pleasure to have helped so many children – and in some cases their children – become independent young people.  And she is enjoying her newest pleasure, sharing life with the “smartest, cutest children” of all – her small grandson and granddaughter!

Our Assistant Teacher is Mrs. Kerry Landsverk!

History and Organization
Organized in 1992, the Pre-School is licensed by the State of Illinois and is managed by a Board of Directors consisting of 9 members appointed from the community, the church and the parents.  It is non-denominational, non-profit (funded solely by tuition and fund raisers), and is an equal opportunity employer.  It offers 3-day and 4-day (Pre-K) programs for children who are at least 3 years of age by September 1.  Housed in the Lower Level of First United Methodist Church, it has it’s own private entrance from the rear of the parking lot.  First Families, a parent group, offers support and assists in our efforts to help small children make their ‘First Friends’ away from the home environment.
